Rata Lever was the daughter of Graham and Alice Lever of Matua. Matua is referred to as Otumoetai in this item. Rata worked at Thornecliffe Hospital in Edgcumbe Road, Tauranga prior to going overseas during World War II. Chapter 4 focuses on life on the farm. Mention is made of the following: Maori Racecourse on Matua peninsula which later became the Lever farm ; Oranui Estuary ; unearthing of a skeleton while filling in the trenches surrounding one of the pa on Matua peninsula.
